"The Angels of Prague"
In Prague I discovered an ancient city of pastel coloured, rectangular buildings embellished with cupolas, spires and, unexpectedly, Art Nouveau motifs. The decaying Art Nouveau railway station had individual women’s faces with headdresses over each window which inspired me to create this, series of works. The ‘Angels’ watch over this ancient city and give sensitivity to the stark forms of the buildings. The names and colours of each print are taken from works by the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha who was as famous as Lautrec and Steinlen for his poster work in Paris in the 1890’s.
